(Kakabeak). Red variety. A woody legumey shrub native to the North Island, with striking clusters of red flowers. These flowers resemble the beak of a New Zealand parrot, and the plant is also known as Parrot's Beak, Parrot's Bill and Lobster Claw. An endangered species in the wild. Widely grown as a garden plant. Grows to about 2 metre high with spreading branches producing leaf stalks up to 15 cm long bearing several pairs of small leaflets. They usually flower from spring through to early summer, but can flower twice a year or even all year round. 30 seeds 2018.

Sun or partial shade. To one metre +. Fertile humus rich, well drained soil. Smothered in showy clusters of pure white, sweet pea-like flowers among grey-green leaves. A vigorous climber, it looks lovely scrambling over a sunny wall or through a hedge or evergreen shrub, although initially it needs to be tied into supports. No fragrance. Cut back the plant to ground level in early spring. 30 seeds (2018)

To 40 cms. Bronzy-maroon foliage and bears very conspicuous and very large, molten lava-coloured, orange-scarlet flowers in summer. Sun/part shade. 30 seeds 2018.

Unusual showy plant for sunny border. Tall upright stems with delicate whtie booms. Best staked. Good drainage. Long flowering and good for cutting. Suitable for sandy/average soil.  20 to 24 Celsius. Do not cover seed. 30 seeds 2017. Winter dormant.
