There are about 150 different types of perennials and bulbs in the nursery including:

  • Potted bulbs


There are a few seed varieties and plastic labels available for sale. Visitors can obtain a printed catalogue and are welcome to wander around and enjoy looking at the variety of lines on offer. Some photos are on display or online.

Campanula rotundifolia

(Bluebells of Scotland). Height to 25 cms. Graceful, nodding, mauve-purple bells in early summer. Ideal for edging, containers and rock gardens. Sun. Winter dormant.

Campanula 'Van Houtei'

(Mystic Bells). 60 cms. A pretty and popular clump forming ground cover for a sunny area. A constant abundance of gorgeous large mid blue flowers over many weeks from late spring to autumn. A light trim encourages new flushes of flowers. Winter dormant.

Centaurea montana

Perennial cornflower. To about 40 cms in height. Deep blue, spidery flowers from spring. Long flowering. Sun or part shade. Ground cover. Winter dormant.

Cimicifuga americana

To one metre +. The flowers are produced in late spring and early summer on a tall arching stem. The long slender spikes are made up of many clusters of small white flowers. Suits partial shade. Winter dormant.

Clianthus puniceus

(Kakabeak). Red variety. A woody legumey shrub native to the North Island, with striking clusters of red flowers. These flowers resemble the beak of a New Zealand parrot, and the plant is also known as Parrot's Beak, Parrot's Bill and Lobster Claw. An endangered species in the wild. Widely grown as a garden plant. Grows to about 2 metre high with spreading branches producing leaf stalks up to 15 cm long bearing several pairs of small leaflets. They usually flower from spring through to early summer, but can flower twice a year or even all year round. 30 seeds 2022

To 40 cms. Bushy rhizomatous perennial with numerous branched stems. Bears yellow daisy like flowerheads in loose corymbs in early summer. Sun or part shade, well drained soil. Winter dormant.
